Rain Kilt

Rain Kilts have almost nothing but advantages over rain pants, which is why they've become so popular in ultralight hiking. Here's a brief list:

• Much lighter than rain pants because they require less fabric.
• Better ventilation, as they're open at the bottom and have a slit on the side. This prevents the typical heat buildup/sweating in rain pants, which prevents you from getting wet inside.
• Easier to put on and take off. While you often have to take off your shoes to wear rain pants, the Rain Kilt can simply be pulled on - even while running!
• More comfortable and offers more legroom.
• Of course, there are situations, such as very cold regions or strong winds, where rain pants provide a bit more protection. However, I prefer to use wind pants for these.

I sew the Rain Kilts from polyester, because it absorbs less water than nylon and remains lighter when wet, thus drying faster.

The 20D ripstop version is the standard. I can also use 15D Silpoly (without ripstop) in the same color upon request. The Kilt will then be slightly less robust, but weighs only 43 g.
