Gaiters are a true classic in ultralight hiking and the go-to solution for hiking in trail runners/sneakers – lightweight and reliable!
Gaiters aren't waterproof – nor are they meant to be; their job is to keep dust and dirt out of your shoes. They're perfect when worn with shoes specifically designed for this purpose – see "Gaiter Trap" from Altra, for example. Alternatively, a piece of velcro can be attached to the heel of the shoes. The gaiters are then very easy to attach and stay securely in place all day long.
The fabric is breathable, stretchy and slightly thicker than the well-known gaiters from the U.S. – making them more durable ;).
The velcro is attached by default with the fleece side facing in and the hook side facing out – I can reverse this upon request. Upon request, I can gladly include approximately 5 cm of hook side (not self-adhesive!) free of charge.
